FDA speaks on unregistered weight loss regime on market

​ The Food and Drugs Authority has warned against the use of a weight loss regime known as Ascot Diet. Ascot Diet involves the use of injections, appetite suppressants and a meal plan for weight loss. The FDA in a statement said “Ascot Diet weight loss products, produced by the Ascot Diet Clinic have not been registered by the Authority and its use could cause severe allergic reactions like itching, hives, shortness of breath, wheezing, swelling of the tongue, throat or mouth, stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, or faintness due to the sudden boost in minerals and nutrients.” The FDA wishes to advise the public to desist from patronizing medicinal products that are not registered by the Authority since their safety, quality and efficacy cannot be guaranteed. Importers of such weight loss products are to note that Sections 99 and 118 of the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851 prohibit the importation and sale of unregistered products. A 65-year-old woman was rushed to the Takoradi Naval Base Clinic after she collapsed upon seeing her belongings consumed by a dawn inferno in a slum at Sekondi in the Western Region. The Ghana Fire Service reported that the fire begun four minutes past midnight on Tuesday and caused severe damage to about 64 wooden structures located on the site. A report by the Western Regional Public Relations Officer of the Service said it took a combined team of Firefighters from the Regional Command approximately 2 hours 17 minutes to fully contain a ferocious fire. In a statement confirming the fire, the Ghana Fire Service said: “Firefighters arrived at the fire scene within 7 minutes after receiving the fire call at 1204 hours to bring the intense and wild mixed cargo fire under control at 1339 hours. The cause of the ruinous fire which is yet to be determined was finally knocked out at 1421 hours.” Preliminary inventory of the losses disclosed that the fire “caused severe damage to 64 structure

In an audio clip that was posted on social media, Banda stated that he and his wife have been married for 13 years and have three children. He continued by saying that throughout their marriage, he was able to construct two houses: one for the wife and one for her mother in the village where the wife was raised. Banda claims that his wife recently left their home because she had started dating another man. Banda attempted to speak with the woman at one point, but the new man answered her phone instead. ​ Patrons of VIP JEOUN Transport Service will, from Monday, October 24, 2022, pay more for services provided by the transport company. The upward adjustment in fares charged by the company was announced in a statement issued by the management of VIP JEOUN Transport on Sunday evening. “VIP JEOUN Transport announces for the attention of the travelling public new fares effective on Monday 24/10/2022 at 07:00 hours GMT,” the company added in the statement. This comes on the back of plans by the Ghana Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to  increase transport fares  on Monday. Various driver unions had demanded a 40% upward review of the fares they charge following the continuous rise in fuel prices in Ghana. Currently, diesel and petrol are selling for over GH¢15 and GH¢13 respectively at major fuel pumps; a situation transport operators say is eroding their profit. They have also threatened to kill officers of the Forest Services Division of the Forestry Commission for attempting to evict them from the reserve. The Forestry Commission has not granted entry permit to prospecting, community mining and galamsey operators where they were operating day and night in the forest reserve.
